Compulsory Purchase

In January 2008, Network Rail began the process of compulsorily purchasing land along the route of the Airdrie – Bathgate Rail Link in order to make way for the new railway. All those who are directly affected will have received a formal pre-General Vesting Declaration notice (a pre-GVD notice) with an explanation of what compulsory purchase means and how they will personally be affected.

A second Notice (or Post-General Vesting Declaration) will be sent to all affected parties during April and May 2008. This Notice confirms Network Rail’s acquisition of land and/or rights in land and provides information about when the compulsory purchase process will be completed.

Network Rail will again be holding drop-in surgeries for all those in receipt of a letter to discuss any questions or concerns that people may have. Details of when and where these surgeries will be held are contained in a Question and Answer document enclosed with the Notices. If you are in any doubt, or would like more information, please contact our National Helpline on 08457 11 41 41, providing the following information:

• Name of ‘Addressee’ – e.g. your name or ‘Owner/Occupier’
