Airdrie – Drumgelloch
- May 2010 to December 2010:
- construction of new second track and signalling works
- upgrade of Airdrie Station
- removal of the old Drumgelloch Station
- driver training
Drumgelloch – Caldercruix
- 8 May - Carlisle Road will close overnight (10pm) to allow bridge construction works on the Airdrie-Bathgate Rail Link works to begin in this location. It will reopen at 4pm on Sunday 9th May.
- 9 May – Drumgelloch station closes for relocation and will remain closed until the reopening of the line in December 2010
- 22/23 May – weekend closures begin on Carlisle Road for four weeks
- 24 May – night time closures (10pm – 6am) begin on Carlisle Road for eight weeks
- 14 June – Carlisle Road closed for up to eight weeks
- 17 to 26 July – Airdrie station closed for a period of nine days
- 16 Aug – Carlisle Road reopens
Caldercruix – Raziehill
- August 2009 to July 2010: construction of the new Caldercruix Station and car park. For more details about the new station and car park, click here
- September 2009 to May 2010: reconstruction of Caldercruix Main Street bridge

Raziehill – Blackridge
- June 2009 to August 2010: reconstruction of A89 Bedlormie Toll bridge and construction of temporary road
- A series of activity will take place betweek May - July 2010
- Overhead Line Electrification (OLE)
Installation of overhead electrification system. This section will require approximately 170 piles, bases and masts. - Track works-bottom ballast
Two layers of ballast are required. The first, or bottom ballast, will be delivered to site by road and spread using mechanical plant. This section will require approx 16000ton of ballast. - Trackworks - delivery of long welded rail
New rails will be delivered to site by train. This is likely to require three trains, each carrying the equivalent of 3400m of rail on board. - Sleeper layout
Approximately 15000 new steel sleepers will be required in this section. Sleepers will be delivered to site and laid using a New Track Construction train. - Dropping top ballast
The second layer, or top ballast, will be laid throughout the site by using rail-mounted plant which will be brought to site by train. Each train will carry approx 900 tonnes of ballast and this section will require approximately 5500 tonnes of top ballast in total. - Tamping of track
Track will be put in its final position using a tamper.
