LINESIDE VIEW FOR MSP
Thursday February 26, 2009
Despite recent wintery weather, work on the Airdrie-Bathgate Rail Link continues apace.
Earlier this month, local MSP Karen Whitefield braved the chilly conditions to see Network Rail contractors, QTS in action while they continued to remove vegetation from the cycle path in Clarkston.
The de-vegetation work started in December to make way for major civil engineering works to begin. Graeme Elliott, Network Rail Communications Manager said: “We are delighted Karen could come down to the site to see this critical activity for herself.
“Removing trees along the line of the route is essential to ensure the safe construction and future maintenance of the railway. Before beginning construction work, we were in close contact with Scottish Natural Heritage who gave us advice on how to minimise construction impact on the environment and local wildlife, for example, carrying out de-vegetation works during the winter months when birds are not nesting. “
You can find out more about how Network Rail is seeking to minimise the impact of construction on the environment by viewing our Code of Construction Practice.
