Construction Update: Airdrie Bathgate Rail Link Works in Uphall - Bathgate Area

Network Rail focuses on construction in Uphall - Bathgate area as New Year begins. Work on the Airdrie-Bathgate Rail Link resumes this week after the Christmas holidays. As progress is made on the project over the coming weeks, areas around Uphall and Livingston North stations, Roman Camp, Deans and Knightsridge will all see heightened activity.

Construction works managed by Network Rail are to prepare the railway embankments for the laying of a second track as well as to commence the upgrade of Livingston North and Uphall stations. Residents in local areas may be affected by these works and Network Rail encourages all concerned residents in the Bathgate, Livingston and Uphall area to click on this link and download the latest Construction Newsletter.

This updated newsletter provides more detail about construction activity in your area. For example, some residents will have noted that we have had to extend the closures of railway paths near Livingston North station. There have been some complications in completing work on embankments and bridges near the station but NR is working  closely with West Lothian Council to minimise disruption throughout our works.

The three-year GBP300m Airdrie Bathgate Rail Link project is on track for completion in December 2010 with the main works scheduled to begin towards the end of 2008. Main works include construction of a new cycle path to replace the existing route along the railway solum, building new stations at Armadale and Caldercruix, relocating Bathgate station, relocating Drumgelloch station and building a double tracked and electrified line between Bathgate and Drumgelloch.

Regular project updates will be available on this website, with further Construction Newsletters available for download as works progress in your area.
