CONSTRUCTION SET TO START ON MISSING LINK
Thursday April 23, 2009
Construction of the missing rail link between Bathgate and Drumgelloch can now begin as the essential de-vegetation programme to remove problematic trees along the line of the route between Bathgate and Drumgelloch has now finished.
The de-vegetation programme, a necessary step in the construction process of the new rail line and new stations, was deliberately undertaken during the winter months to avoid the bird nesting season and, throughout, Network Rail worked in partnership with Scottish Natural Heritage to minimise the environmental impact.
Hugh Wark, Network Rail Senior Project Manager said: “We’re pleased to see another major milestone in the project complete on time. De-vegetation was essential to allow the construction programme to move forward. While we did our best to work considerately, we’d like to thank local residents and line side neighbours for their patience and understanding during the work.”
