Monday March 05, 2007
Network Rail, Promoter of the Airdrie-Bathgate Railway and Linked Improvements Bill, today welcomed the Committee's Consideration Stage Report. With the Committee’s continued endorsement of the benefits of the proposed railway to communities in Central Scotland, this moves the Bill a step closer to completing its parliamentary passage.
Ron McAulay, Director Scotland, commented:
“Today’s report is a major milestone for the Airdrie-Bathgate project and we welcome the Committee’s unreserved support for the railway.”
“We have actively engaged with local communities during the development of the project and have seen significant progress in recent months. We will continue to work closely with those along the railway line to demonstrate our commitment to transforming public transport links in central Scotland.”
“The Scottish Parliament is due to vote on the Final Stage of this Bill later this month and we look forward to delivering this important project.”
Committee Deputy Convener, Alasdair Morgan MSP, concluded:
"We remain supportive of this £342 million public transport project and recognise the economic and social benefits it can bring to West Lothian and North Lanarkshire."
