BATHGATE STATION CAR PARK TO CLOSE AS £300M PROJECT ENTERS NEW PHASE
Friday December 12, 2008
The smaller, overspill car park at Bathgate Station will be closed to the public from Monday, December 15, as engineers begin work on the next stage of the £300m Airdrie-Bathgate Rail Link project.
Access to the car park’s site is required by contractors working on devegetation and ground stabilisation projects associated with the new line. Members of the public are being advised to use alternative council-run parking facilities within Bathgate town centre.
Drivers are also advised that the main station car park will close in February 2009 as it lies directly on the route the new Transport Scotland-funded railway will take through the town.
While the closure of the car parks will cause short-term disruption, the finished line will deliver a new, improved station for the town – and more than double the number of parking spaces available at the station.
A Network Rail spokesman said: “While the closure of these car parks will create a short-term inconvenience for some travellers, it is an unavoidable step in the delivery of a new £300m railway line for the town. The Airdrie-Bathgate Rail Link will not only mean more trains and increased service reliability, it will also deliver an improved station building and larger car park at Bathgate.”
