AS TIME GOES BY - TIME-LAPSE PHOTOGRAPHY OF WORK AT BATHGATE UNVEILED
Thursday January 08, 2009
Network Rail has unveiled a film that gives you a real insight into the work involved in building the new railway.
The time-lapse photography was filmed during one of the busiest months of construction on the Airdrie-Bathgate project so far - July 2008, when the line between Bathgate and Edinburgh was closed for 16 days.
Around 200 engineers and construction workers grafted day and night to complete the work within this intensive period. The activity was focused on the Bathgate section of the line as the team laid over 12,500 tonnes of ballast and 3,000 metres of track as well as fitting 12 new switches and crossings.
Additional tracks that will connect the railway to a new light maintenance train depot at Bathgate were also built at this time.
