AIRDRIE STATION IMPROVEMENTS COMPLETE

Wednesday July 28, 2010

Airdrie station reopened as planned on Sunday 25th July complete with a brand new platform and upgraded facilities, including a new footbridge and easy-access lifts, after a nine day closure.

The improvements herald the latest milestone in the £300m* Airdrie-Bathgate Rail Link project which, from December, will allow passengers boarding at Airdrie to travel direct to Edinburgh and stations in between, as well as to Glasgow.

Ron McAulay, Network Rail’s director, Scotland said:  “We thank the travelling public and local residents for their cooperation and patience while we carried out this work. The Airdrie station upgrade marks another step closer to the completion of the Airdrie-Bathgate Rail Link, offering the communities of central Scotland a real choice of travel options.

“We are now looking forward to the reopening of Carlisle Road, which is on track for mid-August, before the end of the school holidays.”

Carlisle Road is scheduled to reopen on 16 August.

The Airdrie-Bathgate Rail Link is funded by Transport Scotland.
