AIRDRIE BATHGATE PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE REPORT PUBLISHED
Wednesday November 15, 2006
The Parliamentary Committee responsible for considering the Airdrie-Bathgate Railway and Linked Improvements Bill published its report on 14 November 2006.
The Committee has endorsed the general principles of the Bill and recommends that the Scottish Parliament agree to allow the Bill to proceed to the next stage of the legislative process. Responding to the publication of the report, Ron McAulay, Director, Network Rail Scotland said:
"We welcome the Committee's endorsement of the general principles of the Bill, which would see the re-opening of the railway line between Airdrie and Bathgate. The Committee's report contains a number of recommendations; we will work closely with Transport Scotland and our industry partners to consider and respond to these in the coming months.
"The publication of this report is an important milestone in the Parliamentary process; the Committee’s approval of the Bill’s objectives is a boost for our ambitions to construct the new railway. We look forward to the Parliamentary debate later this month, where we hope for a similarly positive outcome."
The Parliamentary debate on the Bill will be held on the morning of Thursday 23 November.
